Three forces stack up between November and March. First, MSC Cruises started year-round service from Galveston in November 2025 out of its $156 million Terminal 16, a facility that opened in late 2024 and is also home to Norwegian Cruise Line. That means sailings now leave on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in addition to the traditional weekend departures, so midweek port days are as busy as Saturdays. Second, the holiday window in late December is one of the highest-demand stretches of the cruise calendar, with families filling multi-generational cabins. Third, the port itself keeps growing: it is already the fourth-busiest cruise homeport in the country, and its long-term plan includes a proposed fifth terminal.
Who Is Sailing from Galveston This Winter
The lineup is deep. Carnival keeps its largest Texas program with Carnival Breeze and Carnival Jubilee sailing year-round, and two more ships join for 2027-28: Carnival Horizon begins Galveston service on May 19, 2027, and Carnival Spirit arrives October 11, 2027. Royal Caribbean bases Allure of the Seas at the port, and the line's headline move is still ahead: Icon of the Seas, the world's largest cruise ship, comes to Galveston in August 2027.
