The Pearland → IAH route, in detail
Pearland sits roughly 30 miles south of George Bush Intercontinental, and there is really only one sensible way north: TX-288 to Sam Houston Tollway / Beltway 8 East, then north on the JFK Boulevard ramp into the IAH terminal loop. For West Pearland and Shadow Creek Ranch addresses, the entrance to TX-288 north is usually FM-518 or Broadway Street. For East Pearland (Old Town, around Dixie Farm Road), drivers often save 5-10 minutes by cutting across SH-35 to TX-288 instead of looping back west. Either way, you are looking at ~30 highway miles plus a ~3-mile terminal loop, which we plan as 40-55 minutes off-peak and 55-75 minutes between 6:30-9:30 AM and 4:00-6:30 PM. The Beltway 8 / TX-288 interchange is the most common slow spot; if your flight leaves before 7 AM we will route you while traffic is still light and you will usually beat the published drive time.
Which IAH terminal do you need?
IAH has five terminals (A, B, C, D, E) connected by the inter-terminal Skyway train. The terminal depends on your airline:
- Terminal A — mostly Air Canada and a few international carriers.
- Terminal B — United Express regional flights.
- Terminal C — United domestic mainline.
- Terminal D — the international terminal: Lufthansa, Air France, KLM, British Airways, Emirates, ANA, Singapore, Turkish, Qatar, Aeromexico, Avianca, Volaris and most other foreign-flag carriers.
- Terminal E — United’s long-haul international flights (Europe, Asia, South America) plus Spirit and several Latin American carriers.
Tell us your airline at booking and the driver will drop you at the correct curb on the upper (departures) level — no walking across the airport with luggage.
Pearland to IAH vs Pearland to Hobby
Pearland is geographically closer to William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) — about 12-15 miles vs ~30 miles to IAH — so if you have a choice of flights, Hobby usually wins on drive time and shuttle fare. We run both routes; see our Pearland to Hobby shuttle page for that option. IAH is the right choice when you need a non-stop international flight, a United hub connection, or a specific schedule Hobby (which is dominated by Southwest) does not offer. The Pearland → IAH ride is longer, but for most travelers the door-to-door shuttle still works out cheaper than driving plus 1-2 weeks of IAH parking.
Parking at IAH vs taking the shuttle
IAH’s on-airport parking runs roughly $8/day Ecopark, $17/day economy lots, and $24-27/day garage (rates published by IAH at fly2houston.com; check live pricing at booking). For a one-week trip that’s $56 in Ecopark or $168 in the garage, before fuel and the ~60 miles of round-trip driving. A door-to-door shuttle for two people typically lands in the same range as a week of economy parking — without the drive home after a red-eye, the parking shuttle from the lot to the terminal, or the risk of a flat tire in long-term parking. For solo business travelers parking 4+ days, the shuttle almost always pencils out. For weekend trips with 1-2 nights of parking, parking is usually cheaper — the right answer depends on trip length.
