How Far Is Corsicana From Dallas? Direct Distance and Driving Distance
Corsicana is roughly 55–56 miles northeast of Dallas when measured along Interstate 45, the primary highway linking the two cities. In optimal traffic conditions, the drive takes about 51–55 minutes, making it a feasible day‑trip or weekend getaway for Dallas residents (Source: MapQuest). The straight‑line (great‑circle) distance between the two city centers is slightly longer at about 105 miles, reflecting the curvature of the road and the fact that I‑45 does not run in a perfectly straight line (Source: Rome2Rio).
Why the Difference Between “Straight‑Line” and “Driving” Distance?
The 105‑mile figure is calculated as the shortest possible path across the earth’s surface, ignoring highways, rivers, and terrain. The 55‑mile driving distance accounts for the actual route you’ll follow on I‑45, which dips through towns such as Red Oak, Waxahachie, and Ennis before reaching Corsicana. For trip planning, the driving distance is the metric you’ll want to use, because it reflects real‑world travel time and fuel consumption.
Transportation Options: How to Get From Dallas to Corsicana
Whether you prefer to drive yourself, take public transit, or combine modes, several viable options exist. Below is a quick comparison to help you choose the best fit for your schedule and budget.
| Mode of Travel | Approx. The route follows I‑45 north‑east from downtown Dallas, passing through the suburbs of Duncanville and Red Oak before entering the more rural stretch that leads into Corsicana. Most gas stations along I‑45 are clustered around the towns of Waxahachie and Ennis, so you’ll have no trouble refueling if needed. Because the drive is relatively short, you can expect minimal fatigue and plenty of time to enjoy the scenery.
Bus + Taxi CombinationIf you don’t have a car, the cheapest public‑transport option involves taking a Greyhound or another intercity bus to a nearby hub and then arranging a taxi for the final leg. This combined journey typically takes around 3 hours 21 minutes, including waiting time and transfers (Source: Rome2Rio). While the total cost is higher than driving, it can be a good alternative for travelers who prefer not to drive in traffic. Train + Taxi (DART)Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) operates a light‑rail line that connects downtown Dallas (West End Station) to the University of Texas at Dallas Station in about 28 minutes (Source: DART). From there, you’d need to book a taxi or rideshare to cover the remaining distance to Corsicana. Although the train portion is short and inexpensive (about $3 for a 3‑hour pass), the taxi leg can add a significant amount of time and cost, making this option less straightforward than a direct drive. Scenic Route and Key Landmarks Along Interstate 45The stretch of I‑45 between Dallas and Corsicana is more than just a commuting corridor; it offers a taste of East Texas landscapes, historic towns, and local attractions.
