What to Expect on the Temple to IAH Route
The Temple-to-IAH corridor is one of the longest single-leg airport runs Texas Shuttle handles — roughly 170–180 road miles and three and a half hours of drive time across two distinct geographies (the Central Texas blackland prairie and the Houston metro). Based on our completed Central Texas→IAH trips and the dispatch playbook for the corridor, here's the on-the-ground reality of how the route operates — pickup zones, road choice, terminal handoff, and what to expect on price.
Pickup zones we serve in Temple and Bell County
We pick up from any address in Temple (ZIPs 76501, 76502, 76504, 76508) and the surrounding Bell County area at the same flat door-to-door rate. Most of our Temple pickups come from the residential west and south sides — Westfield, Western Hills, Wildflower Country Club, Hartrick Bluff, Park Place, the Lake Belton waterfront neighborhoods, and the Scott & White / Baylor Scott & White medical campus housing — with steady volume from the downtown Temple core along South 31st and Adams Avenue, the East Temple neighborhoods near Avenue R, and the newer subdivisions north toward Heidenheimer. Outlying pickups in Belton, Nolanville, Salado, and Troy are quoted at the same flat rate; for those, see our dedicated Belton to IAH, Salado to IAH, and Killeen to IAH pages. If you're staying at a corporate apartment near the Scott & White medical campus, just enter the full street address at booking and the driver will meet you at the door.
The road choice: I-35 South to US-190 East to SH-6 South to US-290 East
From Temple there isn't a true interstate that goes directly to Houston — the most reliable corridor combines four highways and we use it on nearly every run:
- I-35 South from Temple through Belton and Salado (about 40 miles, 45 minutes off-peak). This is the smoothest leg of the trip.
- US-190 East at Cameron, cutting east across Milam County to pick up SH-6 (about 35 miles, 40 minutes). Light traffic; no toll.
- State Highway 6 South through Hearne, Bryan-College Station, and Navasota (about 75 miles, 80 minutes). This is the longest single leg. We typically take a brief 5–10 minute restroom/snack stop in Bryan-College Station on long runs unless the customer wants to push straight through.
- US-290 East from Navasota through Hempstead and Cypress (about 45 miles, 50 minutes, slightly longer in Houston-metro rush hour).
- Sam Houston Tollway (Beltway 8) North at the I-10/US-290 interchange straight into the IAH north entry (about 10 miles, 15 minutes). Tolled, included in the flat fare.
We avoid routing through Austin (south down I-35 and then back east) for Temple pickups — that path is roughly 30 miles longer, sits in Austin and Houston-metro rush traffic, and is reliably slower than the US-190 / SH-6 corridor regardless of departure time.
IAH terminal handoff — pick the right curb
George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) has five terminals (A, B, C, D, E) connected by the Skyway elevated train and an underground inter-terminal train. Tell us your terminal at booking and we'll drop you at the right Departures curb:
- United Airlines — Terminals B, C, and E. United is IAH's dominant carrier and most Central Texas riders fly United; B and C handle most domestic United departures, E handles United international and the Houston-Heathrow / Houston-Frankfurt routes.
- American Airlines — Terminal A.
- Delta, Air Canada, Alaska, JetBlue, Frontier, Spirit — Terminal A.
- British Airways, Lufthansa, KLM, Air France, Emirates, Qatar, ANA, Singapore, Turkish, EVA, Avianca, Aeromexico, Volaris, Viva — Terminal D (international).
- Southwest Airlines — does not serve IAH. Southwest flies from Houston Hobby (HOU). If you're booked on Southwest, see our Temple to Hobby shuttle page instead.

Travel tips for the Temple to IAH long-haul
- Book 24–48 hours ahead for a morning flight. A 3.5-hour drive plus a 2-hour airport buffer means a 5 a.m. United departure from IAH requires a Temple pickup around 11:00–11:30 p.m. the night before. Overnight pickups are common on this corridor; the dispatcher confirms the window the day prior.
- Tell us your terminal. See above — naming the terminal at booking saves the driver from circling on the IAH terminal loop (which can add 10+ minutes inside the airport).
- Flight tracking is included on returns. If your inbound flight to IAH runs late, our dispatcher tracks the gate arrival and adjusts the driver's positioning automatically — no need to call from the gate. The driver waits in the IAH cell-phone lot and rolls to the terminal once you confirm bags-in-hand.
- Plan a stop. On a 3.5-hour run we'll happily make a quick stop in Bryan-College Station (about the halfway point) for restrooms, coffee, or a stretch — just tell the driver. Most riders skip it on early-morning runs and take it on the return.
- Car seats for kids. Texas law requires safety seats for children under 8 or under 4'9". Request a car seat at booking and we'll supply one at no surprise charge.
- Returning to Temple from IAH? Same flat rate, same corridor. Many Temple medical-center business travelers book a roundtrip the same evening they book the outbound — the driver assigned to your outbound is often the same one who picks you up on the return.
